In many ways the face of the modern auto industry, Henry Ford first began building motorized vehicles like his “Quadricycle” at the end of the 19th century. He then leveraged that experience to create the Ford Motor Company in 1903 and introduce his first car, the Model A, the same year. But it was Ford’s embracing mass-production techniques that really jump-started the auto business. That significantly lowered the cost — and difficulty — of building motor vehicles, and customers responded. The Ford Model T, which was the first car to benefit from mass production, sold more than 15 million models during its production run (1908-1927). Henry Ford passed away two decades later, leaving the company to enter a new era that began just a year after Henry’s death. That’s when the original F Series trucks made their debut and began their steady climb to the top of the sales charts. The years went by, and customers were treated to icons like the Thunderbird in the 1950s, the Mustang in the 1960s, the Taurus in the 1980s, and the Explorer in the 1990s.
